Malcolm Carver Architect ARAIA AWI ARAS
Watercolour magic intrigues us all, yet it is so easy to become so obsessed with detail, that you often labour too long in striving for perfection.
Capturing the essence, is often more exciting, nailing the magic spirit of a place with the least number of strokes, not more.
Simplifying detail in drawing and painting techniques helps to learn to see the light and shapes that will significantly improve you’re sketching and painting skills. Malcolm’s fresh and enlightened approach is designed to ensure a new direction in learning to see forms and shapes including an understanding of depth in perspective. The course also embraces photographic apps to assist in exploring and analysing images to simplify detail to an appropriate level.
Open to all, the course will involve studio and some plein air painting (weather permitting) to capture the images and spirit of parts of nearby Grafton. The emphasis will be on keeping a sketchbook of places, people, and images, combined with digital photo references which will significantly assist your ability to capture the spirit of a location.
Malcolm is an architect and an artist, who regularly travels, primarily in Europe, Australia, Asia and the Americas. His inspiration comes from the search for original imagery with a fascination for lighting effects. He uses these encounters to create beautiful travel sketchbooks in addition to his studio work in drawing and watercolour for regular exhibitions.
Malcolm has won numerous awards, with his enlightened and passionate approach to sketching, drawing and watercolour painting.
Over the past twenty years, he has augmented his travels with tutoring at a variety of both international and Australian workshops.
