Malini Parker, Western Australia. Acrylics.

Come with me on a gentle journey into my seven-step painting process that is a unique blend of structure and abandon. You learn how to create beautiful, richly textured surfaces using very simple materials and acrylic paint. As you allow yourself to let go and work freely, the critical voices will subside, and your paintings begin to take form! Very soon, richly textured surfaces will emerge as I guide you step-by-step through the process, I use to create my own work. Igniting those creative fires and delving deep into texture and colour, we will work in layers, building up multiple rich and lustrous surfaces that have depth and a hint of mystery. Over five days, we will create a set of six paintings, from abstract to semi-abstract with motifs that are inspired by nature. We will also be working freely to create organic, fluid swirls that give movement and looseness to your art! Beyond mere “art techniques”, cultivating a fully creative life in all its ups and downs can amplify and expand our journeys. My style of teaching is story-based, so as we create art, I will share personal experiences gathered over the past two decades of art making, and the tools I use to leverage the creative process to enrich my life. My seven-step process to create tantalising textures is fun, easy to implement, rich in metaphor, and has been shared with over 1500 students all over Australia. Join me in Grafton in 2021 if you’d like to:

  • learn to let go, and work freely, but also relax within the safety of structure.
  • learn a ton of practical tips.
  • learn my unique seven-step process to create beautiful, strong, abstract and semi-abstract paintings, inspired by the Australian landscape.
  • learn how to use your art to amplify thoughts and ideas that you’d like to invite into your life.
  • learn a solid process that you can apply over and over again, as you develop or incorporate it into your unique style.
  • leave with a set of six beautiful, textured paintings to take home.

I welcome complete beginners, dabblers and experienced artists. I’d love to meet you and share ‘Tantalizing Textures’: a five-day creative adventure!

Malini Parker is a scientist turned artist from Perth, Western Australia. Her professional career began in medical research, wending its way through the performing arts before settling into visual art, where it has stayed for the past two decades. Malini’s paintings are fluid and organic abstractions, often featuring the softness of lace and leaves against rugged textural marks. She describes them as joyful celebrations, inspired by the mystery and wonder of life. Malini feels honoured that her work has encircled the globe and is featured in public and private collections all over the world, from London to New York, Singapore to Quebec. She has won numerous art awards and held eleven solo exhibitions since 2005. Her work has also been included in numerous group shows in Western Australia and all the way to New York City. Malini has been committed to helping others uncover their creativity for the past ten years, attracting students from all across Australia and overseas. She runs sought-after and unique workshops from her purpose-built studio high among the gum trees in the Perth hills. In her classes, the hearts and hands of even the most complete beginner are filled with possibilities, a transformation that often happens in just one intensive day! “My classes are relaxed explorations, full of laughs and love, and the art that emerges from my students is just spectacular. I am constantly inspired by the magic and wonder of the creative process, and how it can change lives. It certainly has mine!”

Malini’s book, ‘Five Ways Your Creativity Might Just Save Your Life’ can be downloaded from her website.
