This week will be an opportunity for student and tutor to collaborate in a structured work environment. This will challenge and maximise each student’s potential enabling them to produce exciting light filled paintings that resonate with the viewer. Colley will be ensuring that the works produced have subtle tonal values when needed and contrasting dark to light values, sound and interesting compositions, exciting brushwork, colour temperature of each painting and also paying special attention to the importance of edges. Colley will conduct an onsite demonstration and work in a controlled studio environment. Colley has found that regular Still Life study has played a great benefit in his development and art knowledge so he has included a full day’s exploration of the Still Life genre. Students are welcome to bring along their own reference material to produce their own original artworks. Colley will conduct classes in a step-by-step process which enables students of all levels to view his process in fine detail. Colley has long felt his aim is to give expression to his visual ideas with his ambition to impart his knowledge to his student; this will require each student to step out of their comfort zone. His workshop will be conducted in a positive and uplifting manner. Open to students, 18 years and over.
Colley Whisson is an internationally recognised artist born in 1966 and raised just to the north of Brisbane, Australia. He commenced oil painting at the age of 20. He held his first Solo Exhibition at the age of 24. Colley has held numerous Solo Exhibitions and created two highly acclaimed books, many magazine articles here and abroad and his range of DVD’S were a complete sell-out. He is well sought after in Australia, United States, and New Zealand and leads art tours to Europe. Colley has been awarded numerous art prizes over the span of his career. His highlights are 1st prizes in Queensland, Sydney & Melbourne. He sees himself as a painter of light, aiming to paint with precision to convey the purest message possible and striving to capture spontaneous loose impressions each time he returns to his easel. He is at his happiest professionally when he is painting full of confidence using his brush like Zorro would wield his trusty sword, dashing in marvellous darks, highlights and rendering each painting with as much skill and accuracy as possible. He loves nothing more than the challenge of pushing himself to find new subjects to paint. He is honoured to carry the tag as one of Australia’s finest young Impressionist painters. Colley has a strong belief that he is not copying nature but giving expression to visual ideas.
