- EXPLORE AND PAINT WHAT YOUR EYES SEE – Plein-Air Watercolour
Join this workshop in the beautiful NSW North Coast, city of Grafton, home to the Jacaranda. Have fun learning the magic of watercolour painting and sharing your experiences with other likeminded friendly people. Greg is a patient and encouraging tutor will introduce you to a loose, impressionistic style of painting. Share his enthusiasm, knowledge and skills in this unique watercolour workshop which will run over five days. If this genre of Plein-Air painting brings doubts into your creativity then this workshop will diminish your fears. Greg paints in a loose, spontaneous manner and students are encouraged to do the same. Two of his favourite sayings are “don’t worry about painting inside the lines” and “let the water work its magic”. You will learn how to use the essential watercolour techniques, tonal values, a limited colour palette, and lost and found edges and simplify what you see to create a harmonious, moody and atmospheric painting. The workshop includes tuition on design and composition that will create the ‘wow’ factor in your work. You will learn how to simplify shapes and create effective designs; learn paint application, and the colours and paper that will transform your work; what it takes to add emotional content to your paintings and how you can put your own personal stamp on your work. Traditional, modern and abstract styles will be demonstrated. The focus will be on painting in and around the city which offers the artist a multitude of subjects including the Clarence River, Grafton’s famous bendy bridge, the beautiful wide streets adorned by magnificent trees, the rich legacy of early colonial buildings, the avenue style railway viaducts, the many well keep parks. No time will be spent travelling as all this is available within fifteen minutes of your base Grafton High School. Open to the experienced watercolourist , 18 years and over.
